Piedmont

Piedmont sits at the foot of the Alps in north-west Italy. Its name means “at the foot of the mountains”, and its hills give some of Italy’s most age-worthy reds. Nebbiolo rules the Langhe and Roero, where it becomes Barolo and Barbaresco; Barbera and Dolcetto fill the everyday glass, and Moscato d’Asti brings the sweet, gently sparkling side. Autumn is truffle season in Alba, which is why so many of the region’s classic pairings meet in the forest. Start with the guides below, grouped from the great reds to the whites and sweet wines.
